Where my desire to help came from and why giving back will always be a part of Amor Blooms' mission.
Last Feb 2019, my mom & I hit rock bottom. It was the lowest point in our lives. My mom had just closed her business & also had just recently been laid off her job. While I on the other hand, just gave birth, was currently unemployed & also suffering from postpartum depression.
During this time, my mom started experiencing excruciating back pains. She tried to ignore it at first because she was afraid of the results & the bills. Over time though, the pain became unbearable & she had to have it checked. She then found out that it was stage 4B ovarian cancer (with other complications). 4B...the very last stage. My world shattered when I found out. Losing my only parent & bestest friend was my biggest fear & I couldn't believe this was happening.
We didn’t have any savings at the time so I had no choice but to ask for donations whenever we needed extra funds. Thanks to family, friends, kind hearted strangers, govt agencies & PCS, we were able to gather a decent amount for her medical expenses. However in the next few months, bills would again pile up due to her increasing complications.
My mom being a strong, independent & incredibly stubborn woman, didnt like the idea of asking for donations for her. She would rather that people have a good memory of her & not be a burden on anyone. Due to this, we would have a hard time getting her treated & all of this stressed my mom out even more.
She battled for about half a year before she passed away. Even then I would still need assistance from my family to help with her burial. Having experienced all of this, I just don't want anyone to feel as hopeless as I did. At the very least, I want to help in any way that I can, especially those who really need it.
Back then I didn't have Amor Blooms to help with financial problems. Now that my business is finally sustainable, I want to be able to give back and help as much as can. Aside from the trees being planted for every purchase, I’m also planning to give a percentage of my sales to Philippine Cancer Society. Giving back and helping people truly makes me happy & I hope that in the near future, I could spread more love and do more for our people and our planet.
